How we calculate a muhurat
The muhurat finder is rule-based and deterministic — no AI. The rules are the shared core of Muhurta Chintamani and the almanac practice built on it (Drik, Vishuddha, Nirnaya Sagar). Where sources disagree we keep only what they share, so a window we return should suit most traditions, while some windows other almanacs accept will be missing.
A window appears only when all of these hold at every moment
- The weekday (sunrise to sunrise) is in the purpose’s list — Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for every purpose.
- The tithi in force is in the list (1–15 Shukla, 16–30 Krishna).
- The Moon’s nakshatra (Lahiri ayanamsa) is in the list.
- Rahu kaal is always avoided; for some purposes Yamaganda too; Vishti (Bhadra) karana; for some purposes Vyatipata and Vaidhriti yogas.
- Whole days are left out during kharmas (Sun in Sagittarius or Pisces), chaturmas (Devshayani to Devuthani Ekadashi), adhik maas, and when Jupiter or Venus is combust.
- Hours run sunrise to sunset; only marriage runs to the next sunrise (weddings are often at night).
A window breaks wherever the tithi, nakshatra, yoga or karana changes, so each window carries one set of panchang facts and its reasons. Pieces under 10 minutes are dropped.

What we do not check
- Lagna shuddhi (which ascendant the act falls in).
- Personal tara bala and chandra bala — these need your birth chart.
- Panchaka, disha shool (we do not know the direction of travel), gand mool, holashtak and regional customs.
- Namkaran is traditionally on the 11th or 12th day after birth; the finder only says which days in your range are suitable.
- Purposes such as mundan, property purchase or surgery are deliberately not offered — the sources share too little on them.
So ask your family priest before you decide — they can refine a window we give.
