What is manglik dosha?
A chart is called manglik when Mars (Mangal, also Kuja) sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. Classical texts weigh it mainly in marriage matching, reading Mars in these houses as extra force in the areas of partnership and home.
It is very common. Six of the twelve houses qualify, so by the lagna rule alone roughly half of all people are manglik — which tells you at once that it cannot be the misfortune it is sometimes made out to be.
The rule we apply
We count Mars's house three ways, by whole signs: from the lagna, from the Moon and from Venus. Each reference that puts Mars in one of the six houses counts. We show all three, so you can see whether the dosha comes from one reference or all of them — traditions differ on how much weight each carries, and the lagna reference is usually read first.
Cancellations our engine checks
Classical texts list conditions under which the dosha is cancelled or softened. When Mars qualifies, we check these and list every one that applies:
- Mars in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or exalted (Capricorn).
- Jupiter in the same sign as Mars, or casting a full aspect on it.
- Jupiter or Venus in the lagna.
- House–sign exceptions: Mars in the 2nd in Gemini or Virgo, in the 4th in Aries or Scorpio, in the 7th in Cancer or Capricorn, in the 8th in Sagittarius or Pisces, in the 12th in Taurus or Libra.
What it does not mean
It does not mean a marriage will fail, that a partner will be harmed, or that anything must be "fixed" by a ritual. The popular claim that manglik dosha simply ends at age 28 is not part of the classical rule we follow, so we do not apply it. In matching, the tradition's own answer is to compare both charts: when both partners are manglik the dosha is considered balanced. Our kundli matching shows manglik for both sides.

How we calculate it
Mars, the Moon, Venus and the lagna come from our own engine with the Lahiri ayanamsa, in your birthplace's time zone. Houses are whole signs. Because the lagna reference needs an accurate birth time, we flag it when the time is unknown. No AI is involved in the calculation.
