The Ganga and the holy dip

What psychology says
In almost every culture bathing stands for starting afresh. When guilt, a quarrel or exhaustion sits on the mind, dreams often produce images of washing and lightness. For someone recently back from Haridwar, Varanasi or Prayagraj, or from immersing a relative's ashes, the dream also comes straight from that memory. A crowd scene at a mela, with its noise and jostling, is the mind's echo of the same trip.
