Seeing someone you love, who is alive, lying dead in a dream is one of the most upsetting dreams there is, yet Indian folk tradition usually links it to that person's long life and the end of some trouble of theirs. That is tradition, not a forecast; your dream does not change anyone's lifespan or health.

What tradition holds

When someone wakes shaken and says "I saw Amma dead in my dream", elders in many homes reply, "then her years have grown longer." The idea that death dreams bear the opposite fruit is old in Indian dream lore (zinda ko mara dekhna). Many folk lists also read it as some difficulty passing from that person, or an old bitterness between you coming to an end.

The Purana dream chapters sort dreams broadly into auspicious and inauspicious; readings based on who appeared come from later folk lists, which do not fully agree. There is no basis for treating any dream as a warning about someone.
