Virgo and Capricorn compatibility
Two Moon signs fix 5.5–6 of the 36 gun milan points; depending on the nakshatras, the full score runs from 15.5 to 25. Every number is computed by our kundli-matching code — no guessed percentage.
Moon signs, not Sun signs
Most pages you find for “Virgo and Capricorn compatibility” are about Western Sun signs — the Sun's sign on your birthday, in the tropical zodiac — and many add a percentage no rule produces. This page uses the Vedic Moon sign (rashi): the sign the Moon was in at birth, in the sidereal (Lahiri) zodiac. For most people the two are different signs, and gun milan is built on the Moon sign and nakshatra.
The points the signs fix
| Koota | Max | Groom Virgo, bride Capricorn | Groom Capricorn, bride Virgo |
|---|---|---|---|
| Varna | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Vashya | 2 | 0.5–1 | 0.5–1 |
| Graha Maitri | 5 | 4 | 4 |
| Bhakoot | 7 | 0 | 0 |
| Fixed by the signs | 15 | 5.5–6 | 5.5–6 |
| Tara + yoni + gana + nadi (need nakshatras) | 21 | 10–19 | 10–19 |
| Full score — possible range | 36 | 15.5–25 | 15.5–25 |
Traditional gun milan reads some kootas (varna, gana) from the groom's side to the bride's, so both directions are shown. The ranges come from running every nakshatra these two signs can hold (and both vashya halves of Sagittarius and Capricorn) through our kundli-matching code.

Match two kundlisVirgo and Capricorn: the traditional reading
Element and nature
Two earth Moons. Both are read as steady, practical and slow to change. Shared routines and shared plans tend to settle well; what needs deliberate effort is saying feelings out loud rather than showing them only through duty. One movable sign and one dual: initiative on one side, adaptability on the other. (Virgo: earth, dual; Capricorn: earth, movable.)
The lords' friendship
Virgo is ruled by Mercury, Capricorn by Saturn. In natural friendship Mercury counts Saturn as neutral, and Saturn counts Mercury as a friend — friend and neutral. That gives graha maitri 4 of 5, read as how easily the two minds meet.
Bhakoot: 5/9 (navapanchama)
The signs are fifth and ninth from each other — a trine. The standard table scores this relation (navapanchama) 0 of 7, and tradition links it with differences over children and beliefs. Astrologers genuinely disagree here: many regard the trine between Moon signs as mild or even supportive. (Capricorn is the 5th sign from Virgo, and Virgo the 9th from Capricorn.)
Varna and vashya
Varna follows the Moon sign's element (water Brahmin, fire Kshatriya, earth Vaishya, air Shudra — classical labels for temperament, not the person's caste): Virgo is Vaishya, Capricorn is Vaishya. Either way round, varna scores 1. Vashya groups: Virgo human (manav), Capricorn quadruped (chatushpad) / water (jalachar) — 0.5–1 of 2. Capricorn counts as quadruped in its first 15° and water after, so here vashya depends on the Moon's degree and is shown as a range.
What stays unknown without the nakshatras
Of the 36 points, 15 (varna, vashya, graha maitri, bhakoot) are fixed by the two Moon signs alone; for Virgo and Capricorn they come to 5.5–6. The other 21 (tara, yoni, gana, nadi) depend on the birth nakshatras — across every nakshatra these two signs can hold, they range 10–19. So the full score can be anywhere from 15.5 to 25. Some nakshatra pairings fall below the traditional line of 18 and some clear it — so the signs alone cannot answer the question.
Nadi (8 points) is the heaviest koota and depends entirely on the nakshatras. Between these signs, these nakshatra pairings share a nadi and score 0 for it: Chitra – Dhanishta. Every other pairing gets the full 8.
| Nakshatra | Uttara Ashadha | Shravana | Dhanishta |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uttara Phalguni | 25 | 23.5–24 | 16 |
| Hasta | 25 | 24.5–25 | 18.5 |
| Chitra | 17.5 | 18.5–19 | 15.5(nadi) |
| Nakshatra | Uttara Phalguni | Hasta | Chitra |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uttara Ashadha | 25 | 24 | 17.5 |
| Shravana | 24.5–25 | 24.5–25 | 18.5–19 |
| Dhanishta | 16 | 18.5 | 15.5(nadi) |
Tradition takes 18 or more as acceptable; cells below 18 are shown lighter. The number alone decides nothing — the exceptions, both whole charts and, above all, the two people matter.
Frequently asked questions
Are Virgo and Capricorn compatible in Vedic astrology?
The signs alone cannot say. 5.5–6 of the 36 gun milan points are fixed by the two Moon signs (bhakoot relation: 5/9 (navapanchama)); depending on the nakshatras, the full score can be anywhere from 15.5 to 25. For the exact score, match both birth charts.
Why do other sites give a compatibility percentage?
No rule of gun milan produces a percentage for a pair of signs. We show only what the calculation gives: the points the signs fix, and the range of the points that depend on the nakshatras.
Is this about Sun signs?
No. This uses the Vedic Moon sign — the Moon's sign at birth, sidereal (Lahiri). Find yours with the free kundli or the rashi calculator.
