Capricorn, called Makar rashi in Hindi (Makara in Sanskrit), is the tenth sign of the sidereal zodiac, from 270° to 300°, and it is ruled by Saturn. It is a movable earth sign whose symbol is the makara, a crocodile-like sea creature with a deer's head, and it is where Mars is exalted and Jupiter is debilitated.
Most Indians know the name from Makar Sankranti, the festival in mid-January when the Sun enters sidereal Capricorn. Your own Makar rashi, though, refers to the Moon: if the Moon was in Capricorn at your birth, that is your janma rashi, used for the Capricorn rashifal, naming and matching. Earth (tatva) is the element of the practical and the tangible: work, resources, results. The movable (chara) quality adds initiative, so Capricorn is not merely steady, it is enterprising. And Saturn, the lord, brings patience, structure, duty and the long, slow effort that builds things to last.
Together these make Capricorn the sign of the climb: setting a goal, accepting the discipline it needs, and moving towards it step by step.
