Leo, Simha rashi in Sanskrit and Hindi, is the fifth sign of the sidereal zodiac (120° to 150°): a fixed fire sign ruled by the Sun. The Sun's moolatrikona covers its first 20°, so Leo is where the planet of the self, authority and vitality is most itself, and a Leo Moon sign describes a mind that wants to shine and to lead.
Leo as Moon sign, lagna or Sun sign
In Indian practice your rashi is the Moon's sign at birth. The lagna is the rising sign; the Sun sign is where the Sun stood. Vedic signs are sidereal, currently about 24° behind the tropical signs of Western astrology under Lahiri ayanamsa, so the Sun enters sidereal Leo around mid-August rather than late July. People with the Moon in Leo tend to be warm-hearted, confident, loyal and generous. They like to protect and to provide, and they are at their best when trusted with responsibility. The Sun's gift is self-respect; its shadow is pride. A Leo Moon can find criticism hard to take, can need appreciation more than it admits, and can confuse being in charge with being right. Leo lagna compared with Leo Moon
With Leo rising, the Sun rules the lagna. Mars rules the 4th and 9th, a kendra and a trikona, which makes it the yogakaraka for Leo lagna. Jupiter rules the 5th and 8th, Mercury the 2nd and 11th (the two wealth houses), Venus the 3rd and 10th, Saturn the 6th and 7th, and the Moon the 12th.
