Mercury in Leo, as read in Vedic astrology, is Mercury in sidereal Simha, marked out with the Lahiri ayanamsa about 24 degrees behind the Western zodiac. That means a Western "Mercury in Leo" is quite often Mercury in Cancer in the kundli, so the sign should always be confirmed from a sidereal chart. In sidereal Leo, the prince speaks from the king's court: tradition reads confident, dignified and creative intelligence, a flair for presentation, and a mind that likes to lead the conversation.
The prince in the king's court
Leo is a fire sign, fixed (sthira), odd and masculine, ruled by the Sun. Its symbol is the lion, its direction east, and in the kalapurusha body it is the stomach. As the natural 5th sign it carries intelligence, creativity, children, study, mantra and the pleasures of play.
Mercury is the karaka of intellect, speech and trade. In a proud fixed fire sign it tends to show like this:
