Traditional authors who list house-by-house results consistently describe Mercury in the 10th in favourable terms, linking it with learning, success in undertakings and a good name. As with every benefic, they assume Mercury is not badly afflicted.
Common misreadings
- Expecting a single profession. Mercury gives a style of work, not one job title.
- Reading Bhadra yoga from any Mercury in a kendra. It needs Mercury's own or exaltation sign, so for the 10th only Virgo and Sagittarius lagnas qualify.
- Ignoring combustion. Mercury is near the Sun, which is often in the 9th, 10th or 11th here. Deep combustion changes how Mercury's results show.
- Mistaking the Moon chart for the birth chart. Mercury in the 10th from the Moon is a secondary reading, not the main one.
