Jupiter Transit 2026 in Leo: Dates and All 12 Signs

Jupiter (Guru, Brihaspati) enters Leo (Simha rashi) on 31 October 2026 at 12:02 IST, per Lahiri ayanamsa, leaving Cancer where it has been exalted since 2 June 2026. It does not settle there straight away: it turns retrograde on 13 December 2026, slips back into Cancer on 25 January 2027, and returns to Leo on 26 June 2027 before moving on to Virgo on 26 November 2027.

That back-and-forth is the most useful thing to understand about this gochar. Below are the exact stays, what tradition reads for each of the 12 Moon signs, and why the whole chart matters more than any single transit. • 26 Jun 2027, 05:18: Jupiter re-enters Leo, in Magha.
• 31 Aug 2027, 00:33: Jupiter moves into Purva Phalguni.
• 16 Aug – 15 Sep 2027: Jupiter is combust (Guru asta), close to the Sun.
• 4 Nov 2027, 20:48: Jupiter moves into Uttara Phalguni.
• 26 Nov 2027, 18:44: Jupiter enters Virgo.

A table of the stays

Jupiter's passage through Leo is not one block but three, because of two retrograde loops near the sign boundaries.

In 2028 Jupiter turns retrograde again on 12 January in Virgo, slips back into Leo on 28 February, turns direct on 14 May and finally leaves Leo for Virgo on 24 July 2028 at 15:36. Counted from first entry to final exit, the whole Leo passage is 632 days, of which 386 are actually spent in Leo. Why many calendars give only one date

A transit list usually prints one line: "Jupiter enters Leo, 31 October 2026". That is correct but incomplete. For about five months in 2027 Jupiter is back in Cancer, and a reading built for "Jupiter in Leo" does not apply in that window. When you read any forecast for this period, check which of the stays above it is talking about.

Jupiter in Leo: what the sign means

Leo is ruled by the Sun, which classical texts count as a friend of Jupiter. So Jupiter is comfortable here, if not as strong as in Cancer, its sign of exaltation (deepest at 5° Cancer). Jupiter's debilitation sign is Capricorn, which is not involved this time.

Jupiter enters Leo in Magha, the nakshatra of ancestors and lineage, ruled by Ketu. Later it moves into Purva Phalguni (ruled by Venus) and Uttara Phalguni (ruled by the Sun). These details colour the reading but do not change the basic house count.

How tradition reads Jupiter's gochar from the Moon

In Indian practice, transits (gochar) are read from the Moon sign. Phaladeepika (chapter 26) and other classical texts treat Jupiter's transit as generally favourable in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th signs from the Moon, and as less supportive in the others. "Less supportive" is not "bad": it means Jupiter's help is not flowing as easily through that area, and the rest of the chart decides how much it matters.

Two cautions before the table:

• Leo: Jupiter in your own sign (the 1st) is read as a period of growth in outlook and responsibility, with tradition asking for balance in health habits. In the Cancer window it sits in your 12th, linked with spending and rest. From November 2027 it reaches your 2nd. See Leo 2027.
• Virgo: the 12th from the Moon is traditionally about expenses, travel and inward focus. The Cancer window brings Jupiter to your 11th, a favourable house for gains and friends. See Virgo 2027.

• Scorpio: the 10th from the Moon points to work and status, read as a time of change rather than easy reward. The Cancer window puts Jupiter in your 9th, and Virgo later in your 11th, both favoured. See Scorpio 2027.
• Sagittarius: Jupiter, your Moon sign's own lord, in your 9th is a traditionally strong placement for dharma, teachers, long journeys and fortune. In the Cancer window it is in your 8th. See Sagittarius 2027.

None of these is a verdict. A "favoured" house with a weak natal Jupiter can be quiet; an "unfavoured" house in a good Jupiter dasha can be a fine year.

What changes, and what does not

Jupiter is a slow planet, so its sign change is a background shift, not a switch flipped at 12:02 on 31 October. Tradition does not ask you to start or stop anything on that day. Muhurat practice does care about Jupiter's combustion (16 August – 15 September 2027), when weddings are usually not fixed; our muhurat pages handle that automatically.
