What tradition says
At home, money is spoken of as Lakshmi. If a note falls to the floor, people pick it up and touch it to the forehead, and many households still avoid lending money after sunset. Dreams of banknotes and coins are modern, so the Puranas say nothing about them; today's meanings were assembled by folk lists from older beliefs about wealth and giving.
The striking feature of these lists is the "reversed result": what comes to you in the dream leaves you awake, and what leaves you in the dream returns. Other lists reject this. The disagreement is a good reason to hold all of it lightly.
