Mulank 2 is the root number of everyone born on the 2nd, 11th, 20th or 29th of a month, and it is ruled by the Moon. Mulank 2 people are traditionally read as sensitive and receptive: they notice how others feel, remember small kindnesses, and do their best work where care and imagination are wanted more than force.
Sensitivity here is not fragility. The Moon governs the tides; a 2 can move a great deal, quietly, by knowing when to push and when to wait.
What mulank 2 means
In Vedic astrology the Moon is the manas, the mind. Where the Sun is the self that stays constant, the Moon is the part of us that responds: feelings, memory, comfort, the mother and all forms of nourishment. It also waxes and wanes every month, which is why tradition links it with change, rhythm and moods that come and go.
Two is the first number that needs another. One stands alone; two is a pair, a conversation, a reflection. The Moon itself shines by reflected light. So ank jyotish reads 2 as the number of relationship and response. A mulank 2 person tends to feel their way into a situation before they think their way through it, and they usually know the emotional temperature of a room within a minute of walking in.
The four birth days shade the number. The 11th doubles the 1, so it often reads as a 2 with a stronger streak of independence; the 20th and 29th carry the 2 more gently in the background.
Strengths that mulank 2 tends to show
- Reading people. A 2 is often the friend who asks "is something wrong?" before you have said anything.
- Diplomacy. In a family disagreement over a wedding guest list, the 2 is usually the one who finds wording both sides can accept.
- Imagination. The Moon rules images and dreams. Many 2s have a gift for stories, music, cooking, decorating a home, anything where feeling becomes form.
- Care. Looking after a parent, a child, a plant, a guest: 2s tend to do it naturally and well.

- Neutral: 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9
- Asks for more patience: none

Graha friendship is not always mutual, and it is honest to say so. The Moon counts Mercury as a friend, but Mercury does not return it: from mulank 5's side, 2 is one of the numbers that asks for more patience. In practice this can look like a 2 who warms quickly to a quick-talking 5, while the 5 finds the 2's feelings harder to follow. Knowing that makes the friendship easier, not harder. Work and fields traditionally associated
Ank jyotish traditionally links number 2 with work that involves care, the public and feeling: nursing and caregiving, teaching young children, counselling and social work, hospitality and food, the arts (music, poetry, painting, film), design for homes, and trades connected with water, milk and travel, all long-standing associations of the Moon. The Moon is also linked with the general public, so roles that serve many people directly are often named.

Mulank 2 and bhagyank 2
The mulank is your day-to-day temperament, the instinct that answers first. The bhagyank, from your full date of birth, is read as the wider current of your life. A mulank 2 with bhagyank 8, for example, has a gentle, responsive instinct on a road that asks for patience and long effort, and the two together say more than either alone. Where traditions differ
- Friendly numbers. Popular Hindi lists often give 2 a different set of friends and "difficult" numbers, and they vary from one book to another. Cheiro's Western Chaldean school reads 7 as Neptune rather than Ketu and pairs 2 closely with 7. By our graha-based method, 7 is simply neutral for 2. We use the graha friendships and say so.
- Born between midnight and sunrise. The civil date turns at midnight; the Hindu day (vaar) starts at sunrise. Someone born at 3 a.m. on the 20th could be a 2 by the calendar or a 1 by the Hindu day. Indian practitioners differ. Our calculator uses the civil date.
- Master numbers. Pythagorean systems often keep 11 unreduced and give it special meaning. Indian ank jyotish does not use master numbers, so the 11th is mulank 2.
- Lucky colours and dates. Lists of colours, days and stones for 2 vary widely. Beyond the Moon's traditional weekday, Monday, we treat none of them as settled.
