Travel: what it is
Yatra muhurat is the time to set out on a journey — a pilgrimage, a move to a new city, a long trip. Traditionally what counts is the moment of leaving home, and a family may 'set out' symbolically at the good time even if the actual journey starts later.
What the classical rules look at
The movable and light nakshatras suit travel — Ashwini, Punarvasu, Pushya, Hasta, Shravana, Dhanishta — with Mrigashira, Anuradha and Revati. Only tithis 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11 and 13 are used, and Rahu kaal and Bhadra are avoided. There are no whole-day blocks for travel.
How practice varies
The classical travel rule also checks disha shool — the direction that is barred on each weekday (for instance, east on Monday and Saturday). We do not know your direction, so these pages do not apply it; check it yourself or ask a priest.
These dates come from our own engine applying open rules — no AI. We do not check lagna shuddhi, personal tara/chandra bala, panchaka or regional customs, and the rules are the strict core many traditions share, so some almanacs will list dates that are missing here. Frequently asked questions
Does a flight need a travel muhurat?
Tradition speaks of leaving home, not of the vehicle. Families who follow it leave home at the good time; the flight time itself is not checked.
What is disha shool?
A rule that bars travel in one direction on each weekday. It depends on where you are going, so these pages leave it out.
