An owl in a dream carries two opposite beliefs in Indian tradition: the owl is Lakshmi's mount, so many read it as money coming, while in some regions an owl hooting at night is called an ill omen. That is belief, not a forecast. The Hindi search is sapne mein ullu dekhna.
The owl's two faces
In Bengal, Odisha and eastern India the owl (uluka) is honoured as the goddess's mount at Lakshmi Puja, and an owl coming to the house is thought lucky there. In the West the owl stands for wisdom, the bird of the Greek goddess Athena. In north India, though, ullu is also slang for a fool, and many folk tales of fear grew around its call in the dead of night. That confusion runs through the dream readings too.

What psychology says
The owl sees at night, while everyone else sleeps. So in dreams it often stands for seeing what is hidden, or inner understanding. If you are weighing a decision these days, a calm owl may be a picture of that weighing. An owl's call sounds eerie at night, and that fear can enter the dream too, but the fear comes from the stories we have heard, not from the bird.
An important note about owls
Because of superstitions tying owls to bad luck or to "tantra", owls are trapped and sold every year around Diwali. Indian owls are protected, and catching or killing one is a crime. Owls eat rats and save farmers' crops; they are our friends, not something to fear.
