For a Jyeshtha-born person, gun milan depends on a rakshasa gana, a male deer yoni, Adi nadi and a Scorpio Moon that covers every pada. Its full scores in the table above run from 4 to 32 with Jyeshtha as groom and from 3 to 31.5 with Jyeshtha as bride; the best usual pairings are with Magha and Anuradha.
Jyeshtha is the last star of Scorpio and, in this row, a clear case of gana doing most of the sorting. Knowing that makes the table far easier to read.
Jyeshtha's inputs
Jyeshtha is ruled by Mercury, with Indra, king of the gods, as its deity, and a round amulet or an earring as its symbol. In the ashtakoot scheme:
- Rakshasa gana fixes the gana koota: 6 with a rakshasa partner, 1 with a deva partner, 0 with a manushya partner, in either role.
- Deer yoni (male) fixes yoni; the female deer is Anuradha.
- Adi nadi fixes nadi.
- Scorpio Moon fixes varna, vashya, graha maitri (through Mars as the sign lord) and bhakoot.
Because Jyeshtha stays in one sign, any range in its row comes from the partner. Krittika is the example near the top: 29.5 as the usual score with Jyeshtha as groom, but 24.5 at the low end, since Krittika's first pada is in Aries and the rest in Taurus.
How the row divides
As groom, Jyeshtha's usual totals fall 8 below 18, 12 from 18 to 24½, 7 from 25 to 32, and none above 32. As bride, 10, 10, 7 and 0.
The top five as groom are Magha 32, Anuradha 31, Krittika 29.5, Jyeshtha itself 28 and Ashlesha 26. As bride, Magha and Anuradha tie at 31, then Krittika 28.5, Jyeshtha 28 and Ashlesha 26.
Four of those five, Magha, Krittika, Jyeshtha and Ashlesha, are rakshasa, so gana is at its full 6. Anuradha is the odd one out: a deva star that gives only 1 on gana, but shares the deer yoni and the Scorpio Moon and sits in a different nadi.
The bottom of the table
Jyeshtha's weakest usual scores as groom are Ardra at 4, Punarvasu at 8 and Purva Bhadrapada at 12. All three share Adi nadi with Jyeshtha.
Ardra is the extreme. It is a dog yoni, the deer's sworn enemy, so yoni is 0. It is manushya, so gana is 0. It shares the nadi, so nadi is 0. And counting tara from Jyeshtha, Ardra falls on vadha. That is more than half of the 36 points gone before the sign-based kootas are even added. The other dog nakshatra, Mula, is also Adi nadi, so it loses yoni and nadi together.
Tara from Jyeshtha is unfavourable for Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha (vipat), Rohini, Hasta and Shravana (pratyari), and Ardra, Swati and Shatabhisha (vadha). Tara is worth 1.5 in each direction, and some schools read it from the bride's star only.
Nadi: the Adi nakshatras
The other Adi stars are Ashwini, Ardra, Punarvasu, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Mula, Shatabhisha and Purva Bhadrapada. With each, nadi scores 0 of 8, which the tradition calls nadi dosha. None of the three exceptions our engine checks can apply to any of those eight pairings, because none is Jyeshtha and none has a Scorpio Moon.
Jyeshtha with Jyeshtha is the only case where an exception can come in: two Moons in different padas of the same star. The engine flags it and does not change the score, since astrologers disagree about how much it offsets the dosha. Some regional customs give nadi less weight for certain nakshatras, and South Indian porutham systems approach it differently again.
What else to look at
Indra's star carries a reputation for seniority and responsibility, and families sometimes approach a Jyeshtha match with extra caution. The numbers do not justify fear in either direction. A proper kundli matching adds manglik status, the 7th house, the navamsa and dasha timing to the Moon's score. The nakshatra compatibility chart links every other row, and our gun milan guide explains how the 36 points are built.
