A Magha-born person's gun milan depends mostly on four things Magha fixes by itself (a rakshasa gana, a rat yoni, Antya nadi and its place in tara counting) plus the Leo Moon sign that settles the other four kootas. Across the 27 nakshatras in the table above, the full score for Magha runs from 4 to 31 when Magha is the groom and from 3 to 32 when Magha is the bride.
That is one of the wider spreads in the zodiac, and as groom twelve of Magha's usual scores sit in the low band. The reason is structural rather than personal, and it is worth understanding before anyone reads a single cell as good or bad news.
What Magha carries into a match
Magha is the first nakshatra of Leo, ruled by Ketu, with the Pitris, the ancestors, as its deities. For matching, only a few of its qualities count:
- Gana: rakshasa. This decides the 6-point gana koota.
- Yoni: rat (male). This decides the 4-point yoni koota. Its partner in kind is Purva Phalguni, the female rat.
- Nadi: Antya. This decides the 8-point nadi koota.
- Moon sign: Leo, all four padas. Leo alone sets varna, vashya, graha maitri (through the Sun as sign lord) and bhakoot.
Because Magha never leaves Leo, none of its own padas can split a cell into a range. When you see a range in Magha's row, it comes from the partner's side, as with Chitra (usual 25.5, range 22.5–25.5 with Magha as groom) or Dhanishta (25.5, range 19.5–25.5).
How the table reads for Magha
As groom, Magha's usual scores fall 12 below 18, 9 between 18 and 24½, 6 between 25 and 32, and none above 32. As bride the count shifts to 10, 13, 4 and 0. The best usual totals are with Jyeshtha (31 as groom, 32 as bride), Purva Phalguni (30 both ways) and another Magha (28).
The weakest usual scores with Magha as groom are Uttara Ashadha at 4, Shravana at 6.5 and Rohini at 11. Each of these combines several zero kootas at once: a gana mismatch, the same nadi, or an awkward sign relation.
The main reason so many cells run low is gana. A rakshasa nakshatra meeting a manushya one scores 0 of 6 on gana, whichever partner is which, and nine nakshatras are manushya: Bharani, Rohini, Ardra, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Purva Ashadha, Uttara Ashadha, Purva Bhadrapada and Uttara Bhadrapada. With a deva partner Magha gets only 1 of 6. Only another rakshasa nakshatra gives the full 6.
Yet the table also shows how little one koota decides. Purva Phalguni is manushya, so gana gives that pair nothing, and it still reaches a usual 30. The two share the rat yoni, sit in the same sign and have different nadis, and those points make up the loss.
The cat, the rat and tara
The rat's sworn enemy in the yoni scheme is the cat, and the cat nakshatras are Punarvasu and Ashlesha. With either of them yoni scores 0 of 4. Counting tara from Magha, the unfavourable positions fall on Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha (vipat), Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta (pratyari), and Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada (vadha). Tara is counted in both directions, 1.5 points each way, so one bad count halves it rather than erasing it. Some schools count tara only from the bride's star, which can change this koota.
Nadi: the Antya group
Magha shares Antya nadi with Krittika, Rohini, Ashlesha, Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana and Revati. With any of these the tradition calls it nadi dosha, and nadi scores 0 of 8. Texts list exceptions, but for Magha with those eight none of the three that our engine checks can apply: the stars differ, and none of them shares Leo with Magha.
The one case that can qualify is Magha with Magha, where the same nakshatra in different padas is a recognised exception. Our engine flags it without changing the score, because astrologers do not agree on how far it offsets the dosha. Some regional practices also treat nadi more lightly for particular stars; your family astrologer's custom may differ from ours.
The rest of the chart
A total of 20 or 30 is only the Moon's side of the story. Proper kundli matching also looks at manglik status, the 7th house and its lord, the navamsa and the dasha each person is running. The Leo Moon of Magha asks for respect and a clear sense of family standing; a partner who understands that, and whom you can talk to honestly, matters more than any row in a table. The nakshatra compatibility chart has the other 26 pages, and the 36-guna guide explains each koota in full.
