A Rohini Moon brings a manushya gana, a serpent yoni and the Antya nadi to the match, with Taurus as the Moon sign in every pada. Across the 27 nakshatras, Rohini as the groom scores from 10 to 35, and as the bride from 9.5 to the full 36, so Rohini holds one of the highest single pairings in the whole chart.
Those totals come from the code that powers our kundli matching tool, and the table above lists every one. Here is what drives them.
Rohini's contribution to the eight kootas
Rohini is ruled by the Moon and lies wholly in Taurus, the Moon's sign of exaltation, with Venus as sign lord. For matching:
- Gana: manushya. Human temperament; it scores well with deva and manushya partners and 0 with rakshasa.
- Yoni: serpent (male). The mongoose is its enemy, and only Uttara Ashadha carries the mongoose yoni. Mrigashira is the other serpent.
- Nadi: Antya.
- Moon sign: Taurus, all padas. Varna, vashya, graha maitri and bhakoot are always read from Taurus.
Reading Rohini's row
With Rohini as the groom, 7 pairings are low, 11 average, 8 good and 1 excellent. With Rohini as the bride, 6 are low, 10 average, 10 good and 1 excellent. The bride row is a little stronger overall, which mostly reflects the gana table: a deva groom with a manushya bride earns 6, while a manushya groom with a deva bride earns 5.
Mrigashira is the clear leader. With a Mrigashira groom and a Rohini bride the usual score is 36, every koota full; the other way round it is 35, the missing point being that gana difference. The cell is a range (27 up to the top) because Mrigashira spans Taurus and Gemini. When both Moons sit in Taurus the sign-based kootas are full; a Mrigashira Moon in Gemini falls second from Taurus, a 2/12 relation that zeroes bhakoot.
Purva Bhadrapada is next at 31.5 (Rohini groom) and 30.5 (Rohini bride). Anuradha is interesting: it falls on a pratyari tara counted from Rohini, yet scores 27.5 and 29.5 because its Moon sign, Scorpio, faces Taurus across the zodiac and several other kootas line up.
The weakest usual totals with a Rohini groom are Magha (10), Vishakha (10.5) and Ashlesha (11). All three are rakshasa and all three share the Antya nadi, so both of the two heaviest nakshatra-based kootas read 0 before the rest is counted.
Gana and yoni notes
Rohini's manushya gana scores 0 of 6 with the nine rakshasa nakshatras: Krittika, Ashlesha, Magha, Chitra, Vishakha, Jyeshtha, Mula, Dhanishta and Shatabhisha. That applies whether Rohini is the bride or the groom.
On yoni, serpent and mongoose are sworn enemies, so Rohini with Uttara Ashadha scores 0 of 4. With Mrigashira, the other serpent, it scores 4, which is part of why that pair does so well.
Tara from Rohini is unfavourable for Ardra, Swati and Shatabhisha (vipat), Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada (pratyari), and Ashwini, Magha and Mula (vadha). Tara is worth only 3 in total, and some traditions count it from the bride alone.
Nadi: the Antya group
Rohini's nadi partners are Krittika, Ashlesha, Magha, Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana and Revati. With each, nadi scores 0 of 8. Two cases have a recognised exception:
- Krittika in its Taurus padas, where both Moons share a sign in different nakshatras.
- Rohini with Rohini, when the padas differ.
For the rest, no standard exception can apply. Texts treat this as something to weigh rather than a prohibition, and our tool lists exceptions without changing the score. Read the nadi dosha guide for more.
The rest of the picture
Rohini's high cells are pleasant to see, but a gun milan total is not a forecast. A full matching looks at manglik status, the seventh house, the navamsa and the dasha periods ahead, and South Indian porutham systems weigh the same pair on different checks. Conversation between the two people remains the real test. See Mrigashira from its own side, or the full nakshatra compatibility chart.
