Swati's matching depends on a deva gana, a male buffalo yoni, Antya nadi and a Moon that sits entirely in Libra. The table above shows its full scores running from 9 to 29.5 as groom and from 10 to 29.5 as bride, and in both roles 13 of its 27 usual totals land in the good band.
No Swati pairing reaches the excellent band, but the good band is its largest group whichever role Swati takes. That evenness is worth understanding before anyone reads it as luck.
What Swati sets in the kootas
Swati is ruled by Rahu, with Vayu, the wind god, as its deity, and a young shoot swaying in the wind as its symbol. In matching:
- Gana: deva. It gives 6 with another deva star, 6 with a manushya bride when Swati is the groom, 5 with a manushya groom when Swati is the bride, and 1 with a rakshasa star. Gana is never 0 for Swati.
- Yoni: buffalo (male). Its female counterpart is Hasta.
- Nadi: Antya.
- Moon sign: Libra, all padas, ruled by Venus, which settles varna, vashya, graha maitri and bhakoot.
Swati does not cross a sign line, so every range in its row comes from the partner. Chitra is the clearest case: usual 28, but 20 to 28 as groom and 21 to 28 as bride, because part of Chitra lies in Virgo.
Why so many pairs score well
A deva gana that never drops to zero keeps a floor under every pairing, and wherever nadi, yoni and bhakoot also avoid a zero, Swati's total lands comfortably in the middle or upper bands. As groom its usual totals split 6 below 18, 8 from 18 to 24½, 13 from 25 to 32 and none above 32; as bride the counts are identical.
At the top is Bharani, 29.5 in both roles, even though Bharani is manushya and Swati deva. Chitra and Swati itself are next at 28. Ardra and Punarvasu follow at 27 with Swati as groom; with Swati as bride, Ashwini and Pushya reach 27.5.
The Ashwini result is worth a second look. Ashwini is a horse yoni, the buffalo's sworn enemy, so yoni scores 0 of 4, and still the pair's usual total with Swati as bride is 27.5. The other kootas carry it.
The horse and the Antya stars
The two horse nakshatras are Ashwini and Shatabhisha, and with both yoni is 0. Tara, counted from Swati, turns unfavourable on Pushya, Anuradha and Uttara Bhadrapada (vipat), Ashwini, Magha and Mula (pratyari), and Krittika, Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Ashadha (vadha). Each direction is worth 1.5 points, and some schools count only from the bride.
Swati's lowest usual scores as groom are three-way tied at 11.5: Krittika, Magha and Revati. All three share Antya nadi with Swati. That, more than yoni or gana, is what pulls these cells down.
Antya nadi and the Libra exception
The Antya group is Krittika, Rohini, Ashlesha, Magha, Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana and Revati. With each, the rule gives 0 of 8, what the texts call nadi dosha. For seven of those partners none of the exceptions our engine checks can apply.
Vishakha is different. Its first three padas are in Libra, and a Vishakha Moon there shares Swati's sign under a different star, a combination the texts accept as an exception. Two Swati Moons in different padas can qualify too. The engine flags these and leaves the score untouched; astrologers disagree on how far such an exception should soften the result, and some regional customs set nadi aside for particular stars.
Past the Moon
Vayu's star is associated with independence and movement, and a good gun milan score is a pleasant start, not a settlement. Full kundli matching looks at manglik placement, the 7th house, the navamsa and the dasha each person is in, and South Indian porutham systems add their own tests. The nakshatra compatibility chart has all 27 rows, and the 36 guna guide explains every koota.
