Chitra sits across a sign boundary: its first two padas are in Virgo and its last two in Libra. Its gun milan therefore mixes fixed features (rakshasa gana, female tiger yoni, Madhya nadi) with sign-based ones that shift at the midpoint, and in the table above its full scores stretch from 2.5 to 34.5 as groom and 3.5 to 34.5 as bride.
Few nakshatras cover a wider span. The top of that span is one exceptional pairing; the bottom is a cluster of partners where gana and yoni fail together.
Chitra's matching profile
Chitra is ruled by Mars, with Tvashtr (Vishvakarma), the divine craftsman, as its deity and a bright jewel as its symbol.
| Koota input | Chitra |
|---|---|
| Gana | Rakshasa |
| Yoni | Tiger (female); male partner Vishakha |
| Nadi | Madhya |
| Moon sign | Virgo (padas 1–2), Libra (padas 3–4) |
Gana, yoni and nadi stay put. Varna, vashya, graha maitri and bhakoot depend on which sign the Moon is in, and those four kootas can move by several points across the Virgo–Libra line. That is the source of the ranges in Chitra's row, including Chitra with itself (20 to 28).
Where the scores fall
As groom, Chitra's usual totals split 7 below 18, 10 from 18 to 24½, 9 from 25 to 32 and 1 above 32. As bride they split 8, 6, 12 and 1. With Chitra as bride, the good band is the largest group.
The one excellent pairing is Vishakha, usual 34.5 both ways. Its range is broad (23.5 to 34.5 as groom, 24.5 to 34.5 as bride), because Vishakha too spans two signs, Libra and Scorpio. The peak comes from the shared tiger yoni and different nadis, together with a sign relation that gives full marks over most of the two arcs.
Below that, Hasta, Chitra and Swati each reach a usual 28 in both roles. Ardra (27) is next with Chitra as groom; Mula (27) with Chitra as bride.
Gana and the cow
Rakshasa gana gives 6 with another rakshasa star, 1 with a deva star, and 0 with any manushya star in either role. The manushya nine are Bharani, Rohini, Ardra, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Purva Ashadha, Uttara Ashadha, Purva Bhadrapada and Uttara Bhadrapada.
The tiger's sworn enemy is the cow, carried by Uttara Phalguni and Uttara Bhadrapada. Both are manushya as well. With these two, gana and yoni fail at the same time, and Uttara Bhadrapada adds a shared Madhya nadi. It is no surprise that Uttara Bhadrapada, at 9.5, is Chitra's lowest usual score as groom, followed by Purva Phalguni at 10.5 and Purva Ashadha at 11.
Tara from Chitra is unfavourable for Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada (vipat), Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati (pratyari), and Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha (vadha). Notice that Vishakha is on this list and still tops the table: tara is worth 3 points in all, and one unfavourable direction removes only half of them.
Madhya nadi
Chitra's nadi group is Bharani, Mrigashira, Pushya, Purva Phalguni, Chitra, Anuradha, Purva Ashadha, Dhanishta and Uttara Bhadrapada. Each same-nadi pairing scores 0 of 8, which the texts call nadi dosha. With the eight other stars, none of the exceptions our engine checks can apply.
Chitra with Chitra is the exception. Because the star spans two signs, two Chitra Moons can differ in sign, and they can also differ in pada; either is a recognised exception. The engine shows it and keeps the score at 0. Astrologers differ on how much such an exception eases the dosha, and some regional traditions handle nadi more lightly for particular nakshatras.
Reading beyond Chitra's row
A number like 34.5 is striking, and so is 2.5 at the other end, but both describe the Moon's star and sign only. Kundli matching also looks at manglik status, the 7th house, the navamsa and dasha timing, and South Indian porutham systems weigh some of these relations differently again. The nakshatra compatibility chart lists every other star.
