Revati, the last of the 27, brings a deva gana, the elephant yoni and the Antya nadi to matching, and every Revati Moon lies in Pisces. In the table above it has two excellent pairings as the groom, Uttara Bhadrapada at 34 and Purva Ashadha at 32.5, and its full range of cells runs from 5.5 to 34 as the groom and 4.5 to 33 as the bride.
Revati never crosses a sign boundary, so the small ranges you see in its row belong to its partners. Here is how our kundli matching engine builds the rest.
What Revati fixes
Revati, the fish of Pushan, the guide of travellers, is ruled by Mercury and sits at the end of Pisces, a Jupiter sign. For the kootas:
- Gana (6): deva. A deva nakshatra never scores 0 on gana.
- Yoni (4): elephant, female. Bharani is the male elephant; the lion of Dhanishta and Purva Bhadrapada is the enemy.
- Nadi (8): Antya.
- Tara (3): from its place at the end of the count.
Varna, vashya, graha maitri and bhakoot come from Pisces.
The two standouts
Uttara Bhadrapada is Revati's neighbour in Pisces, and the pair collects nearly everything: same sign, different nadis, and a gana table that favours this direction. With Revati as the groom and Uttara Bhadrapada as the bride, a deva groom with a manushya bride earns the full 6 for gana, and the total is 34. Swap the roles and gana gives 5, so the total is 33.
Purva Ashadha is the more surprising one. It falls on a vipat tara from Revati and lives in Sagittarius, yet reaches 32.5 with Revati as the groom and 30.5 with Revati as the bride. The same gana asymmetry accounts for part of that gap; the other kootas that are read from one side make up the rest. Its small range, 32–32.5 or 30–30.5, comes from Purva Ashadha's side: Sagittarius changes its vashya class at 15°, a point inside that nakshatra.
The rest of the row
As the groom, Revati has 6 usual scores below 18, 8 in 18–24.5, 11 in 25–32 and 2 above 32. As the bride: 6, 11, 9 and 1. After the two leaders, the scores level off: Revati with Revati and Mrigashira at 28 as groom (Mrigashira's cell is 27.5–28, since it straddles Taurus and Gemini), Hasta at 27.5, and Pushya at 27 with Revati as the bride.
The lowest usual score for a Revati groom is Vishakha at 5.5: Vishakha is rakshasa, leaving gana at 1, and it shares Revati's nadi. Swati (12.5) and Ashlesha (13) follow. Swati shares the nadi and sits on a vadha tara; Ashlesha shares the nadi and is rakshasa.
Elephant, lion and a gentle gana
Elephant and lion are sworn enemies, so Dhanishta and Purva Bhadrapada give 0 of 4 for yoni. Bharani, the other elephant, gives the full 4.
Revati's deva gana is forgiving: it scores 6 with deva partners, 6 or 5 with manushya partners depending on who is the groom, and 1 with rakshasa partners. It never falls to 0. That is one reason Revati has more good-band cells than many nakshatras.
Counted from Revati, tara is vipat for Bharani, Purva Phalguni and Purva Ashadha, pratyari for Rohini, Hasta and Shravana, and vadha for Ardra, Swati and Shatabhisha. Hasta still reaches 27.5 from a pratyari position. Some traditions count tara only from the bride; ours counts both ways at 1.5 each.
The Antya nadi
Revati shares the Antya nadi with Krittika, Rohini, Ashlesha, Magha, Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha and Shravana. Nadi is 0 of 8 with each, and none of the standard exceptions can apply: none of those eight has a Moon in Pisces. With Revati itself, the "different padas" exception can apply.
Texts give nadi more weight than any other koota and also record exceptions; astrologers differ over how much an exception eases the finding. The nadi dosha guide explains the rule calmly.
After the score
Revati's position at the very end of the zodiac draws its own discussion in some traditions, but that is outside the 36 points. A full matching also considers manglik status (see manglik dosha explained), the seventh house, the navamsa and the dashas, and South Indian porutham systems judge the same pair their own way. For the whole grid, see the nakshatra compatibility chart; Revati's best partner is on the Uttara Bhadrapada page.
