Under tara: the bride's nakshatra counted from the groom's / the groom's from the bride's; the 3rd, 5th and 7th taras are the unfavourable ones. Gana and the sign kootas can differ with who is the groom, so where they differ both are given (first: Krittika as the groom). Where the full score is a range, a pada of one nakshatra falls in another sign; the "usually" score covers most of the two nakshatras.

Nadi: the nakshatras that share Krittika's nadi

Krittika belongs to the Antya (kapha) nadi. A match with any nakshatra of the same nadi scores 0 of 8 in the nadi koota — what is called nadi dosha. The texts also list exceptions, and astrologers differ on how far an exception eases it. Each pair below shows the exceptions that can apply for some placement of the two Moons; which one applies to two real charts is what kundli matching shows.

  • Krittika — possible exceptions: same nakshatra, different Moon signs; same nakshatra, different padas
  • Rohini — possible exceptions: same Moon sign, different nakshatras
  • Ashlesha — the two never share a Moon sign, so none of the three exceptions can apply
  • Magha — the two never share a Moon sign, so none of the three exceptions can apply
  • Swati — the two never share a Moon sign, so none of the three exceptions can apply
  • Vishakha — the two never share a Moon sign, so none of the three exceptions can apply
  • Uttara Ashadha — the two never share a Moon sign, so none of the three exceptions can apply
  • Shravana — the two never share a Moon sign, so none of the three exceptions can apply
  • Revati — the two never share a Moon sign, so none of the three exceptions can apply

More: nadi dosha, its meaning and exceptions.

Krittika's gun milan is shaped by a rakshasa gana, a sheep yoni, the Antya nadi and, unusually, two possible Moon signs: Aries for the first pada and Taurus for the other three. In our table Krittika as the groom scores from 8.5 to 31.5 across the 27 nakshatras, and as the bride from 9.5 to 30.5, and many cells show a range because of that sign split.

The numbers above are produced by the engine behind our kundli matching. This page explains how to read them.

Krittika in the matching system

Krittika, ruled by the Sun and presided over by Agni, begins in Aries and ends in Taurus. Its matching profile:

  • Gana: rakshasa. The fierce temperament, which pairs well with its own kind and poorly with manushya.
  • Yoni: sheep (female). The monkey is its sworn enemy, carried by Purva Ashadha and Shravana. Pushya also has the sheep yoni.
  • Nadi: Antya.
  • Moon sign: Aries (pada 1) or Taurus (padas 2, 3, 4).

The nakshatra-based kootas (tara, yoni, gana, nadi) are the same whichever pada you hold. The sign-based ones (varna, vashya, graha maitri, bhakoot) change completely between Aries, ruled by Mars, and Taurus, ruled by Venus.

Why Krittika's cells are ranges

Because the Moon can be in either sign, the total for a given partner can move by several points. The usual score in the table is the one that holds over most of the two nakshatras' arcs, and for Krittika that means the Taurus portion, since three of its four padas lie there. If your Moon is in the first pada, check the other end of the range, and a kundli will tell you which pada you have.

The Krittika–Krittika pair shows this clearly: usually 28, but as low as 18 when one partner is in Aries and the other in Taurus.

The strongest and weakest Krittika pairings

Krittika has no pairing in the above-32 band. As the groom it has 9 low, 13 average and 5 good; as the bride, 8 low, 14 average and 5 good.

The top of the list is Shatabhisha, usually 31.5 with a Krittika groom (range 27–31.5) and 30.5 with a Krittika bride. Dhanishta and Jyeshtha follow in the high 20s to around 30. All three are rakshasa nakshatras, which is no accident: rakshasa with rakshasa scores the full 6 on gana. Dhanishta and Jyeshtha even fall on unfavourable taras counted from Krittika (vipat and vadha), yet still come out near the top because the heavier kootas agree.

At the bottom, Shravana gives the lowest usual score with a Krittika groom, 11, followed by Swati at 12.5 and Purva Ashadha at 13.5. Shravana and Purva Ashadha carry the monkey yoni, and Shravana and Swati share Krittika's Antya nadi.

Gana and yoni for Krittika

The rakshasa gana cuts sharply. With any of the nine manushya nakshatras (Bharani, Rohini, Ardra, Purva Phalguni, Uttara Phalguni, Purva Ashadha, Uttara Ashadha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada) gana scores 0 of 6, whichever side is the groom. With deva partners it scores 1. Only rakshasa partners give the full 6.

On yoni, sheep and monkey are sworn enemies, so Purva Ashadha and Shravana score 0 of 4; Pushya, the other sheep, scores the full 4.

Nadi: the Antya nine

Krittika shares the Antya nadi with Rohini, Ashlesha, Magha, Swati, Vishakha, Uttara Ashadha, Shravana and Revati. Two of these have a recognised exception:

  • Rohini, when the Krittika Moon is in Taurus: same Moon sign, different nakshatras.
  • Krittika itself: same nakshatra in different Moon signs, or in different padas.

For the other seven, no standard exception can apply. Our tool shows the exceptions but keeps nadi at 0, since astrologers differ on whether an exception cancels the dosha or only softens it. See the nadi dosha guide for a plain account.

More than a number

A Krittika score is one input. A complete matching also weighs manglik status, the seventh house, the navamsa and dasha periods, and South Indian porutham systems may view the same pair differently. None of this replaces an honest conversation. Compare with Rohini, or return to the nakshatra compatibility chart.

The nakshatras narrow the score down; both sets of birth details give the exact pada and sign, the nadi and bhakoot exceptions, and manglik.

Frequently asked questions

Which nakshatra is best for Krittika?

Shatabhisha gives Krittika its highest usual score: 31.5 with Krittika as the groom and 30.5 with Krittika as the bride. Dhanishta and Jyeshtha follow closely. No Krittika pairing reaches the above-32 band. A total is one traditional measure, and the whole chart, plus how the two people relate, says far more.

Is Krittika with Rohini nadi dosha?

Both are Antya nadi, so the nadi koota scores 0 of 8. But when the Krittika Moon is in Taurus (padas 2 to 4), both Moons share Taurus while sitting in different nakshatras, and the 'same Moon sign, different nakshatras' exception can apply. Astrologers differ on how far that exception eases the finding.

Can Krittika marry Krittika?

Usually the pair totals 28 of 36, but the full range is 18 to 28. The low end appears when one Moon is in the Aries pada and the other in Taurus. In that case, and also when the padas differ, a traditional nadi exception can apply.
