An Uttara Phalguni match is shaped by a manushya gana, a male cow yoni and Adi nadi, and by a Moon that can sit in either of two signs. Its first pada lies in Leo and the other three in Virgo, so in the table above many of its cells carry a range, and the full scores run from 9 to 34 as groom and 8.5 to 34 as bride.
The highest usual total in both roles is 30.5. Where you see a range, the usual figure is the one that holds over most of the arc; the other end applies to the narrower part, usually the single Leo pada.
What Uttara Phalguni fixes, and what it leaves open
Uttara Phalguni is ruled by the Sun, with Aryaman, god of contracts and friendship, as its deity, and the back legs of a bed as its symbol. For matching:
- Gana: manushya, the same whichever pada the Moon is in.
- Yoni: cow (male), matched in kind by Uttara Bhadrapada.
- Nadi: Adi.
- Moon sign: Leo for pada 1, Virgo for padas 2 to 4.
The first three hold steady. The sign does not, and with it varna, vashya, graha maitri and bhakoot can all move. That is why the pair with itself spans 17 to 28, and why the pair with Mrigashira, which also straddles two signs, spans 22.5 to 30.5 with Uttara Phalguni as groom.
Reading its row
With Uttara Phalguni as groom, the usual totals split 9 below 18, 8 from 18 to 24½, 10 from 25 to 32 and none above 32. As bride they split 9, 7, 11 and 0. That is an unusually even spread: plenty of good pairings, and nearly as many low ones.
The strongest usual scores as groom are Mrigashira 30.5, Uttara Phalguni itself 28, Purva Ashadha and Uttara Bhadrapada 27.5 each, and Pushya 26 (range 23.5–26). As bride the order shifts a little: Mrigashira 30.5, then Purva Ashadha and Uttara Bhadrapada at 28.5, then Pushya and Uttara Phalguni at 28.
The weakest as groom are Ashwini at 9, Shatabhisha at 9.5 and Jyeshtha at 13. All three share Adi nadi with Uttara Phalguni, which already costs 8 points before anything else is counted.
Gana and the tiger yoni
As a manushya star, Uttara Phalguni scores 0 of 6 on gana with every rakshasa nakshatra, in either role: Krittika, Ashlesha, Magha, Chitra, Vishakha, Jyeshtha, Mula, Dhanishta and Shatabhisha. With a deva star it gets 5 as groom and 6 as bride.
The cow's sworn enemy is the tiger, and the tiger stars are Chitra and Vishakha. Both are rakshasa too, so with these two partners both gana and yoni come to nothing, 10 points gone before tara, nadi or bhakoot are weighed.
Tara counted from Uttara Phalguni falls unfavourably on Mrigashira, Chitra and Dhanishta (vipat), Punarvasu, Vishakha and Purva Bhadrapada (pratyari), and Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati (vadha). Mrigashira still tops the table despite a vipat count, which shows how modest a single tara is at 1.5 points.
Adi nadi, with two real exceptions
Uttara Phalguni shares Adi nadi with Ashwini, Ardra, Punarvasu, Hasta, Jyeshtha, Mula, Shatabhisha and Purva Bhadrapada, and the rule gives 0 of 8 with each, the traditional nadi dosha. With seven of them, no exception checked by our engine can apply.
Two cases are different. With Hasta, when the Uttara Phalguni Moon is in Virgo, both Moons share a sign under different stars, which texts accept as an exception. And with another Uttara Phalguni, the exception can come either from different Moon signs (one Leo pada, one Virgo) or from different padas. The engine reports these; it does not add the points back, since astrologers disagree on how much relief they give. Some regional customs also soften nadi for certain nakshatras.
Beyond the table
Aryaman's star is about agreements kept, and that is a fair frame for matching as well. The score is a starting point for a conversation, not its conclusion. A full kundli matching report adds the manglik check, the 7th house, the navamsa and each person's dasha. For every other nakshatra's row, see the nakshatra compatibility chart.
