For someone with the Moon in Bharani, the match score rests on a manushya gana, an elephant yoni, the Madhya nadi and Aries as the Moon sign. Our table shows Bharani as the groom scoring between 5 and 33 across the 27 nakshatras, and as the bride between 4 and 34, which is one of the wider spreads in the zodiac because of how sharply the gana koota divides Bharani's partners.
Every figure above comes from the matching code behind our kundli matching tool. What follows explains the pattern behind them.
Bharani's fixed ingredients
Bharani is the second nakshatra, entirely within Aries. Its lord is Venus and its deity Yama, keeper of dharma. The matching features that follow from this:
- Gana: manushya (human). This is the source of Bharani's biggest swings, explained below.
- Yoni: elephant (male). The lion is its sworn enemy, and the lion yoni belongs to Dhanishta and Purva Bhadrapada. Revati also has the elephant yoni.
- Nadi: Madhya.
- Moon sign: Aries throughout. Varna, vashya, graha maitri and bhakoot are therefore read from Aries, with Mars as sign lord.
Since Bharani stays in one sign, a range in its row always comes from a partner nakshatra that crosses a sign boundary.
What the Bharani row shows
As the groom, Bharani has 6 pairings below 18, 13 in the 18–24.5 average band, 7 in the 25–32 good band and 1 above 32. As the bride it is 5 low, 14 average, 7 good and 1 excellent. Most partners, in other words, land in the middle.
The single excellent pairing is Ashwini, the nakshatra just before it: 33 with Bharani as groom, 34 with Bharani as bride. Both Moons share Aries, which fills the sign-based kootas, and the nadis differ. Swati comes next at 29.5 in both directions, which is worth noting because Swati sits on a pratyari tara counted from Bharani, yet the pair still scores well on everything else. Uttara Ashadha is usually 29.5 with a Bharani groom and 28.5 with a Bharani bride; its cell is a range because Uttara Ashadha spans Sagittarius and Capricorn. Ardra (27 with a Bharani groom) and Shravana (27 with a Bharani bride) round out the top.
The lowest usual total with a Bharani groom is Dhanishta at 11. That pair loses on three kootas at once: lion against elephant on yoni, manushya against rakshasa on gana, and the same Madhya nadi. Chitra and Anuradha both come in at 14.5.
The gana divide
Bharani's gana is the reason its row has such clear highs and lows. In the traditional table a manushya nakshatra with a rakshasa one scores 0 of 6, whichever partner is the groom. For Bharani that applies to nine nakshatras: Krittika, Ashlesha, Magha, Chitra, Vishakha, Jyeshtha, Mula, Dhanishta and Shatabhisha. With deva or manushya partners, gana gives 5 or 6. That six-point swing, before any other koota is counted, sorts much of the table.
Gana also explains a small groom–bride difference: a manushya groom with a deva bride scores 5, while a deva groom with a manushya bride scores 6.
On yoni, Bharani with Dhanishta or Purva Bhadrapada scores 0 of 4, and with Revati the full 4.
Madhya nadi partners
Bharani shares the Madhya nadi with Mrigashira, Pushya, Purva Phalguni, Chitra, Anuradha, Purva Ashadha, Dhanishta and Uttara Bhadrapada. With each, the nadi koota is 0 of 8, and none of the common exceptions can apply, since none shares Bharani's nakshatra or Moon sign. Bharani with Bharani is the exception case: if the padas differ, one of the standard exceptions is available.
Tradition reads a shared nadi as a point to weigh, not a bar. Some regional practices do not apply nadi to every nakshatra, and South Indian porutham matching looks at rajju and other checks instead. The nadi dosha guide has the fuller picture.
Looking past the table
A strong Bharani score is encouraging but incomplete, and a weak one is a prompt to look further, not a verdict. A complete reading checks manglik status, the seventh house, the navamsa and the dasha each person is running. Above all, it leaves room for the two people to know each other.
