Ketu in Taurus here means the sidereal sign Vrishabha, which the Lahiri ayanamsa places roughly 24 degrees behind the tropical Taurus used in Western charts. A Western astrologer's "Ketu in Gemini" will often land in this sign, while their "Ketu in Taurus" may belong to sidereal Aries. In Vrishabha the node of letting go sits in the steadiest, most possession-minded sign of the zodiac, and the usual reading is a person who can enjoy good things yet does not cling to them.
Letting go in a sign that likes to hold on
Taurus is earth, fixed (sthira), even and feminine, the natural 2nd sign of the kalapurusha. It stands for the face, speech, food, family wealth and whatever a person values enough to keep. Its symbol is the bull, patient and grounded. Ketu, the headless body of the Svarbhanu story, has no appetite for more. The meeting is a paradox, and traditional readings describe it that way:
- A loose grip on possessions. Money may come and go without much anxiety; collecting for its own sake does not appeal.
- Plain tastes, or unusual ones. Some prefer simple food and few belongings; others have refined but idiosyncratic taste.
- Speech that is spare or blunt. Ketu tends to cut words short. The person may say little, or say exactly the uncomfortable thing.
- An inborn sense of value. Ketu's "past skill" in an earth sign of Venus often shows as a feel for craft, music, land or quality.
- Distance from family expectations about wealth or tradition, without necessarily any conflict.
The disputed debilitation
Here the site's facts box says "not fixed", and that is deliberate. Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra gives Ketu no own sign. Many texts place Ketu's exaltation in Scorpio, which makes Taurus, the opposite sign, its neecha sign in those texts; the facts sheet also notes that many give Rahu's exaltation here. Others put Ketu's exaltation in Sagittarius and its debility in Gemini, leaving Taurus neutral. Some authors add that Ketu co-rules Scorpio.
If you follow the Scorpio school, it is still worth remembering that a node's dignity is read more loosely than a planet's. The usual neecha-bhanga conditions are written for the seven visible grahas, and astrologers who apply them to the nodes do so by analogy. The steadier method is to read Ketu through its sign lord, Venus. A strong Venus gives this Ketu grace, artistic sense and a peaceful detachment. A Venus under strain can make the same detachment feel like dissatisfaction with whatever one has.
Krittika, Rohini and Mrigashira
- Krittika (padas 2 to 4, 0° to 10°, lord Sun): the cutting flame in an earth sign. Ketu here can give strict standards about food, speech or money, and a talent for refining things.
- Rohini (10° to 23°20′, lord Moon): the most fertile, beauty-loving star. Ketu here is often read as someone who creates or nurtures beautiful things without wanting to own them.
- Mrigashira (padas 1 and 2, 23°20′ to 30°, lord Mars): the searching deer. With Mars as star lord, Ketu's Mars-like side awakens; curiosity replaces contentment.
By lagna
- Taurus lagna: the 1st house, with Venus as lagna lord. A calm, self-contained presence.
- Pisces lagna: the 3rd house, a traditionally helpful place for the nodes; effort without fuss.
- Capricorn lagna: the 5th house of children, study and mantra. Learning tends to be intuitive.
- Libra lagna: the 8th house, with Venus ruling both lagna and Ketu's sign.
- Leo lagna: the 10th house. Career may take unusual turns, and status matters less than the work.
For the house that matches the natural zodiac, read Ketu in the 2nd house, which covers speech, family and savings in detail.
Rahu in Scorpio and the aspect question
Ketu in Taurus places Rahu in Scorpio. Where Ketu relaxes its hold on comfort and personal wealth, Rahu is drawn to shared resources, research, secrets and sudden change. Many people with this axis feel secure with little yet find themselves handling joint finances, insurance, inheritance or other people's crises.
Ketu's 7th aspect, as most use it, also falls on Scorpio. The 5th and 9th node aspects are disputed, and some astrologers use no node aspect at all.
As a transit
Ketu moves backwards, arriving in Taurus from Gemini and then moving on to Aries. It usually spends about 1 year 6 months here; the dates are listed above. Traditionally this is a time when people reassess what they own and what they really need, and markets or personal budgets may feel unsettled for a while. From the Moon sign, the passage is usually counted as easier for Pisces, Sagittarius and Cancer Moons, for whom Taurus is the 3rd, 6th or 11th. The live position is on the Ketu transit page.
In Ketu's dasha
In the seven-year Ketu mahadasha this placement often simplifies life: fewer possessions, a change in diet or voice, less interest in family expectations about money. People frequently describe it as a relief once the adjustment settles.
Common misreadings
- "Debilitated" as a fixed fact. It is one school's view, not a consensus.
- Predicting poverty. Detachment from wealth is not lack of wealth; many people with this Ketu manage money well.
- Reading one placement alone. The lagna, the house, Venus, conjunctions, the navamsa and the running dasha all shape the result.
