Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra supplies the principles: the 11th as the house of gains, upachaya houses improving with time, the Moon's dignities, aspect and lordship. Traditional authors who list results by house describe the Moon in the 11th favourably, with wealth, a good name, children, friends and a long life, and they generally rank the 11th among the best houses for any graha. Their descriptions assume a Moon of reasonable strength; a very dim Moon gives the same themes in a weaker form.
Common misreadings
- Treating gains as automatic. The 11th shows the capacity to receive. Effort, the 11th lord and the dasha decide when income actually arrives.
- Forgetting the phase. Income for a bright Moon here tends to build; for a thin Moon it may come and go more.
- Mistaking friends for money. Many with this placement feel its benefit first as a supportive circle rather than as a bank balance.
- Reading the Moon chart instead. The Moon is always in the 1st of the Chandra lagna chart; the 11th-house Moon is counted from the ascendant.
