The Sun in the 11th house places the planet of authority and self-worth in the house of gains, income, friends, elder siblings and fulfilled hopes. It is generally one of the better places for the Sun: the 11th is a house where natural malefics are welcome, and tradition reads it as steady income, influential connections and ambitions that are reached over time.

What the Sun brings to the house of gains
The 11th house, called labha or aya, shows what flows back to a person from their efforts: income, profit, rewards, the circle of friends and allies, elder siblings and the fulfilment of desires. The Sun brings authority, dignity and a need for recognition. Together:
- Gains through authority. Income and opportunities often come through government, senior people, large organisations or a patron. The person may be well placed in a hierarchy or have friends in positions of influence.
- A select circle. The Sun is not naturally sociable in a crowd. People with this placement often keep a smaller network of respected, capable friends, and may be the leading figure within it.
- Ambitions with a direction. The 11th is the house of wishes; the Sun gives them a clear shape. Goals tend to be specific, public and eventually met.
- Elder siblings. Tradition describes an elder sibling or elder figure as prominent, sometimes proud or commanding, and relations as formal more than intimate.
The 11th is an upachaya house, one of the four houses of growth (3, 6, 10, 11) in which malefics improve over time, and the classical rule that malefics do well in the 3rd, 6th and 11th applies directly. The Sun, a mild malefic, is well suited. It is not the karaka of the 11th (Jupiter is), so no karaka maxim is involved, and it has neither full nor zero digbala here, though it stands just past its point of greatest strength in the 10th.

Traditional authors who give the Sun's results house by house describe the 11th warmly, speaking of wealth, gains from rulers or powerful people, and a life relatively free of grief. The tone is consistent across the tradition, and practitioners today generally agree that this is a supportive placement.
Common misreadings
- Expecting windfalls. The Sun gives gains through position and effort, rarely by luck; the 11th is an upachaya, so results grow with time.
- Treating the 5th-house aspect as a problem. It shows the style of one's creativity and children's matters, not a verdict on them.
- Skipping the lagna. For Gemini rising this Sun is exalted, for Libra rising in its own sign, for Sagittarius rising debilitated.
- Mixing with Western readings. The 11th in tropical astrology is often read mainly as friends and groups; here it is first of all the house of gains, and signs are sidereal.
