Saturn in the 2nd house places the planet of work and patience in the house of wealth, family, speech and food. It tends to describe money that is earned and kept slowly, a careful way of speaking, and a strong sense of duty towards the family one is born into.

Common misreadings
- "Saturn in the 2nd means poverty." It more often means frugality and slow accumulation. Exalted or own-sign Saturn here is a stabilising influence on savings.
- Fear of the maraka label. Maraka is a technical term in a longevity method. It is not a diagnosis and is never judged from one planet.
- Ignoring the 8th-house aspect. Saturn's 7th aspect on the 8th often matters as much as its seat in the 2nd, especially for inheritance and joint finances.
- Reading only from the lagna. Many astrologers also count from the Moon sign; Saturn 2nd from the Moon is part of the last phase of sade sati when it transits there, which is a different thing from a natal placement.
