Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra supplies the principles: the 4th as mother, home and happiness, the Moon as its karaka, and Saturn's kendra position and dignity as the basis of Shasha yoga. The texts describe tendencies in a strong register; the chart as a whole decides the degree.
Common misreadings
- "Saturn in the 4th means an unhappy home." It often means a home that takes effort and is valued for that reason. Dignified Saturn here gives one of the Mahapurusha yogas.
- Confusing it with dhaiya. A natal Saturn in the 4th house is not the same as Saturn transiting the 4th from the Moon.
- Reading the mother from one planet. The Moon, the 4th lord and the 4th house together describe the mother; Saturn is one voice.
- Ignoring the 10th aspect onto the lagna. Saturn here shapes the self too, not only the home.
